…..or “Why you shouldn’t just employ a graduate”

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, KTP, is a government programme that supports a partnership between a company and a university to increase company capabilities and profits. Funded by Innovate UK, KTP has delivered great commercial impact for over 40 years, but is KTP right for your business?

The success of a KTP project relies on recruiting a graduate, known as the KTP Associate, who manages the project, transfers the new knowledge and steers it through to a successful conclusion. When explaining KTP to businesses the most common question I get asked is; “So why don’t I just employ a graduate, it would cost me about the same?”

KTP gives you so much more than recruiting independently;

·  The project defines the requirements of the graduate more precisely

·  KTP Associates receive first class management training equip them for success

·  Applicants for KTP recognise the value of the experience and training on offer, so you can attract better candidates.

·  KTP Associates cannot be diverted from their core activities onto peripheral projects.

·  Support from management team

·  Discipline of owning a project and being responsible for delivery

·  Holistic approach – not just a pair of hands

·  Half a day per week academic supervision / mentoring

·  KTP Adviser coaching

·  Flexible training budget that can be tailored to address the needs of the project

·  Commitment of KTP Local Management Team

Aston University has real expertise in KTP and a strong track record in delivering these projects. If you want to learn more about how Knowledge Transfer Partnerships can drive innovation in your business contact Martin May on 0121 204 4253 or ktp@aston.ac.uk.
