Over 40 industry-leading members of Made in the Midlands attended the Virtual Breakfast Morning with Citizen Machinery today. Attendees had the opportunity to network, share best practice and learn more about the company via a 90-minute zoom meeting.

Virtual Breakfast Mornings (VBM)  with Made in the Midlands is a great way to meet industry professionals and build relationships all from the comfort of a remote location. Attending members can also tuck into a free goodie box sent to their door, filled with everything you need for an energy-fueled morning; tea, coffee, granola, mints and more.

The VBM with Citizen Machinery was both interesting and informative, as members were welcomed to a presentation from Edward James, Managing Director of the company.

Established for over 100 years, The Citizen Machinery brand is the largest manufacturer of watches in the world. However, since expanding globally, originally based in Japan, the firm has become renowned for its innovative technology in CNC machine tools, with a wide offering of lathes.

World leaders in CNC turn-key technology, Citizen is constantly innovating in design and productivity by listening to market needs. So far this year, the company has launched 8 new machines to the market with a further 3 due to be launched in Spring 2021, this is testament to their advanced capabilities and passion for manufacturing.

Across the globe, there are currently 110,000 Citizen machines installed and running to produce vital components used in everyday life including parts for mobile phones, aerospace, cars, medical, connectors and leisure components.

“I can guarantee you have touched something today that has been produced on a Citizen Machine,” says Edward during the presentation to members.

Citizen has a multitude of manufacturing and production facilities across the globe, employing over 18,000 people worldwide and a ¥252 billion in annual turnover. Since 2016, the firm has seen a 20-25% increase in yearly growth, also credited to its constant innovation in the industry.

Service is also vital for the company, in the UK alone their average response time for customers is 24 hours. Engineers live only 2 hours away from their customers and aim to make the first visit within 4 hours.

Edward’s presentation finished on Citizen’s plans for the future, which their ethos is “Tomorrow’s technology is here today.” This new technology soon to be in the market included touch screen nano, industry-leading LFV and hybrid technology.

After members had the chance to introduce themselves and their companies, before heading off to smaller breakout rooms for two 15 minutes sessions of networking.
