Amada UK are proud to be involved with the Bloodhound SSC (Super Sonic Car) in its attempt to break the 1000mph barrier. Various components will be made on Amada machines and then incorporated into Richard Noble’s latest World Land Speed Record project.
Hampson Aerospace, who are producing the rear of the car decided that a main aim of the project is to promote UK engineering and get school kids interested in a career in engineering. Amada recently sponsored the World Skills engineering apprentice competition and have been championing engineering apprenticeships, so were the perfect choice.
The Bloodhound car is planned to break the 1000mph barrier with its 135,000bh engine, to put this into perspective the car will travel the length of 4 football pitches in 1 second when at full speed. The Thrust SSC which broke the sonic barrier in 1997 achieved a speed of 763mph, but due to the 1000mph target the Bloodhound car has had to use new simulation, design and manufacturing methods.
Excitingly, the Bloodhound SSC will be on display in the Amada Showroom during the next exhibition from 11th – 12th September.
