TAS Engineering Ltd have recently produced 12 test cones for a major concrete manufacturer. They are used to test the viscosity of the concrete by measuring the time taken for the concrete to empty from the cone. The cones are filled up to a level pin near the top then a lever is operated to release a hinged flap allowing the the concrete to pour out while being timed. A self-adhesive, closed-cell rubber disc seals the cone until the concrete is released. The assembly was designed using SolidWorks from photographs of a similar device with sketched dimensions.

The SolidWorks sheet metal features allowed a flat pattern of the cone to be produced then saved in a file format suitable for laser cutting.
