Cube Precision Engineering has started the New Year off with the purchase of a Hurco VM10.  The investment has been made after the Rowley Regis based company successfully secured an operational defence contract.  The win followed a recommendation by BAE Systems after successfully delivery of CVR(T) project in 2012.  The machine complements their existing range of machinery and follows a number of investments made in new equipment at the factory.

Their largest Hurco machining centre, to date, a 3,200 x 2,100 x 920 mm capacity, bridge-type, vertical-spindle DCX32, was installed during the summer.  Cube’s range of Hurco machines includes equipment that is one of only a few in the country.  Director, Neil Clifton, explained their decision for the further investment in Hurco equipment: “The Hurco machines we already own have been tried and tested and have proven to perform so well that we didn’t hesitate in ordering another when the time came.”

Their recent addition has involved an investment of approximately £50,000 including new tooling.  Cube Precision is now set to benefit from the expansion in their capacity.  Neil Clifton added: “The new machine is specialised for working on small components of up to 700 mm and is capable of high speed machining up to 10,000 rpm.  This will allow us to dedicate our larger machines to working on the larger components and, subsequently, increase our turnover as we can focus on both small and large components appropriately.  It will help us to deliver our urgent contracts on time and will ensure we are well equipped for the contract we have just won.”   The firm already have 11 CNC machines running 24 hours a day, 5 days a week.

The investment in machinery has also meant Cube have plans to recruit extra around five new staff.  They have plans to recruit two machinists to operate the machine day and night and a further two new members of staff as toolmakers and are still seeking a new CAD/CAM Operator.

Cube are certainly benefiting from the upturn in the economic climate.  Neil Clifton said: “We are extremely busy at the moment and are very much looking forward to working with some of our new customers.  We are also continuing to receive a number of solid enquiries since our return in January.”  The toolmaker and subcontractor already have their sights set on the purchase of another Hurco machine in June.  They have plans to acquire another DCX32 to further expand their capacity and benefit their customers.

Cube Precision Engineering has endeavoured to provide the highest standards in precision tool design, manufacture, sub-contract machining and low volume production to leading aerospace, defence and automotive companies.  Since 2009 they have worked mainly with Prime and Tier 1 manufacturing companies and have specialized in taking bespoke concept designs and producing prototype parts or full production tooling.  Their dedication to investing in the very best in equipment and staff has enabled them to compete across a wide range of industries with confidence that projects will be delivered on time and to the highest standard.
