A Staffordshire manufacturer has invested over £1.5 million in state of the art equipment and larger premises in order to enhance their capacity and accommodate further growth.
Steel Processing Midlands (SPM), based in Burntwood, has invested in a state of the art slitting line, supplied by internationally renowned Georg UK, which once installed will enable them to increase business growth and expansion plans.
The slitting line, which is currently being manufactured by Wolverhampton based Georg UK, is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2015 and forms a large part of SPMÂs growth plans for the next 12 months.
As well as the investment in new machinery SPM are planning a purpose built extension to their works, giving them a total unit size of almost 50,000 sq ft. The company expects that the extra space and associated growth will create further jobs and advanced opportunities for existing employees.
SPM are a privately owned steel service centre established in 1993, who have established themselves as a quality, flexible and competitive steel supplier in both the Automotive and Industry steel sectors.
Georg UK have established themselves as a premier manufacturer of coil processing equipment, and an important factor in the selection of Georg for SPM was their location in the West Midlands, which was extremely important for SPM when planning the implementation of a project of this nature.
Kevin Haynes, Managing Director of SPM commented: ÂThere is no doubt that it would have been a financial benefit to purchase a slitting line from the Far East, but this is a purchase we will probably only make every 20 years and we are sure Georg will supply us with a machine that will be superior to one made in China for example.

SPM expect that this two-stage growth plan will improve their output by 50%, allowing them to develop from 40,000 tonnes per annum to 60,000 whilst maintaining the service levels and reactiveness required to supply these sectors effectively and build their reputation further.
