Last week, Matthew Heath, Associate Director of Jonathan Lee Search & Selection, attended an Aviation Club Luncheon where guest speaker Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, Secretary for State and Transport, discussed the future of British aviation.
Key elements from his speech included:
- Despite Heathrow not being mentioned in the government's legislative programme outlined during the Queen's Speech in June, Grayling confirmed that ministers remained committed to the additional runway at Heathrow, with the legislative process beginning early next year.
- Aside from Heathrow, he understood calls to develop more regional airports, but warned that opportunities would be limited.
- His belief that further growth of British aviation will support international trade links. Brexit should not be considered as detrimental to the UKÂs position in the European aviation sector, with the aviation deal remaining a top priority during Brexit negotiations.
Matt commented: ÂThe event was very good, with professionals from the global aviation sector representing airlines, airports, products and service in attendance.Â
ÂGraylingÂs confirmation of a new 30-year aviation strategy, soon to be published, is positive news for the sector and demonstrates the GovernmentÂs vested interest to ensure the UK continues to be an international leader.Â
