After many years of research and testing, Obscurea MTS Ltd was founded by Ralston Forsman-White in 2016 with his partner Jaki Smith.

It has been Ralston’s dream and intent since 2005 when, the formulation method was officially performance tested and certified as an A1 class of Fire Resistant Material according to EN ISO 13501/1 by the TNO in The Nederlands.

In the five required samples for this classification, Obscurea® material technology was subjected to a constant kiln temperature of between 783 °C and 786 °C and a sample surface temperature of between 779 °C and 816 °C.

It was shown that within 2mm of the Obscurea® material technology samples, there was a previously unheard  temperature difference of 350 °C from surface temperatures of between 783 °C and 786 °C.

Additionally, it also showed a temperature of between 18 °C and 27 °C within 22mm over a 40-minute period from the surface temperatures between 783 °C and 786 °C according to EN 13501/1.

Obscurea® material technology results in substantial reductions in the use of energy. For providing heating, lighting and air-conditioning. As well as enabling, outstanding structural integrity performance, in the event of a fire emergency.

This has led most notably to, in 2015 gaining certification for Obscurea® Road bitumen modification solution. This specific product solution was tested in The Netherlands by Asfalt Kennis Centrum (AKC) www.asfaltkenniscentrum.nl, with whom a certification program was instigated to the application of Obscurea® Road in a standard AC 11 HMA top layer.

Obscurea® Road is a thixotropic product which readily blends with all bitumen grades.

Obscurea® Road is designed for extreme weather conditions, has been certified to show an enabling 35% more structural integrity and thermal stability, due to its air and environmental sealing and encapsulating abilities.

Obscurea® Road in a previous program was tested for extreme climate temperatures caused by Infra-Red and UV light. The Obscurea® Road additive showed a cooling effect at high temperatures up to 4°C, which is a dominant effect to reduce rutting in a bitumen asphalt road during the summer.

Through various applications, Obscurea® material technology provides effective sustainable high performance thermal properties, capable of being integrated into most composite product solutions, enabling users and product partners to take advantage of optimum ecological standards and the highest performance in thermal insulation factors.

Obscurea® material technology exceeds modern safety requirements for passive fire protection and low thermal conductivity.
