Horizon 2020 has allocated a budget of almost €6bn until 2020 on non-nuclear energy research.

The Energy Challenge is structured around seven specific objectives and research areas:

  • Reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint

  • Low-cost, low-carbon electricity supply

  • Alternative fuels and mobile energy sources

  • A single, smart European electricity grid

  • New knowledge and technologies

  • Robust decision making and public engagement

  • Market uptake of energy and ICT innovation

The competitions below are all available within the next 18 months and are between 70-100% funded projects. The Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) need to be at 4-8 depending on the project. Projects are sought which have pan-European benefits and have partners in more than 1 EU country. We urge all businesses with business activities within these calls to contact us to discuss any R&D projects on the horizon.
