Innovate UK are launching two new competitions on Monday 18th July: First of a kind deployment in innovation and Commercialisation of quantum technologies. See below for details.

First kind of deployment in Innovation

Major trends and challenges are creating enormous pressures on the complex and interdependent social and technical infrastructure systems that underpin modern societies. These trends and challenges include:

·  ageing populations

·  urbanisation

·  changes in the ways we live and work

·  climate change

These pressures and planned major infrastructure projects will create domestic and export opportunities for UK businesses. These businesses must be able to develop, commercialise or adopt innovative solutions that are quick, easy, cost-effective and provide:

·  extra capacity

·  adaptability

·  resilience

·  future-proofingother novel functionalities

The aim of this competition is to enable selected innovative infrastructure systems solutions to take the final step to market readiness by proving:

·  repeatable financing and business cases for the innovation

·  that the innovation delivers the expected outcomes when integrated in complex real-world applications

Innovate UK are looking for projects that will support innovative solutions for system challenges in:

·  energy generation and supply

·  connected transport

·  urban living

Key Details? 

·  This competition has 2 phases:

·  Phase 1 - funded study

·  Phase 2 - testing the innovation in a commercial environment

·  Projects are expected to range in size up to £5m depending on phase.

·  You could receive up to 100% funding!

·  Registration Deadline – 24th August 2016

Application Deadline - 31st August 2016

Commercialistion of quantum technologies

 

The aim of this competition is to encourage collaborative   R&D projects and feasibility studies that will either:

·    develop prototype devices and demonstrators of quantum   technologies or their component technologies

·    improve the understanding of the technical, business or market   challenges of taking a new device or service to market

Key Details

·    Projects should range from total costs of £50,000 to £2m   depending on the study

·    Projects should last between 6 month to 1 year for Feasibility Studies and   up to 2 years for Collaborative   Research and Development 

·    All projects must be collaborative

·    All projects must be carried out in the UK

·    Receive up to 70% of your project costs depending on your   business size

Key Dates

·    Competition Opens- 18th July 2016

·    Registration Closes - 28th September 2016

·    Competition Closes - 5th October  2016
