Formed in 2006, NDT Midlands Limited has grown rapidly from a small independent testing business set up in Bushbury, Wolverhampton, to becoming one of the UK’s premier non-destructive testing facilities.

NDT Midlands moved to an 8,400 sq f t industrial unit in Planetary Road, Willenhall, which offers excellent commercial and logistical links to the whole of the UK.

Having the additional space and being logistically superbly positioned positioned to accommodate most of its customers has led to massive growth.

Therefore the company is undertaking a massive development plan and expanding the business further taking on a new building of around 6,800 sq f t, situated at the back of the current factory. Phase 1 is to double up NDT’s bar testing capabilities, by adding another magnetic particle ‘bus bar’ testing system.

With the addition of two extra staff this will allow the firm to double up capacity on one shift. It is adding extra racking of an extra 48 tonne capacity to offset any problems it encounters when collections aren’t made.

Phase 2 is to move component testing, both dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspection, into the new building. NDT is investing in a purpose-built dye penetrant system to allow it to test bigger parts and components – the company has had an increased interest in aluminium automotive engine blocks and gear housings.

NDT is increasing capacity to allow it to test large production batches both efficiently, more environmentally friendly whilst maintaining profitability.

The company has taken on a new manager for the component division, James Aldridge, who has 18 years plus experience within the fastener industry and says he will be “a marvellous and very professional addition to us”.

Andrew Dudwell, who was taken on as a trainee on February 2006, has been promoted to manager of NDT’s bar testing division. Andrew has almost nine years experience of testing various sizes and defects relating to the bar manufacturing process. His expertise has given NDT’s bar customers the confidence to increase capacity over the years due to the knowledge that they are supplying the highest quality steel.

The company has also taken on another trainee, Paul Stych, who will undertake 12 months of intensive training to become qualified in all aspects of NDT including ultrasonics. Paul has 23 years in engineering and is being tasked and developed to run NDT’s site division.

NDT Midlands offers all forms of industrial non-destructive testing.
The majority of testing processes offered by NDT Midlands are carried out for local firms, but work is regularly received from all areas of the UK and Ireland.

Throughout the UK, on-site non-destructive testing is regularly carried out at customer’s premises, including fabrication shops, building sites, dock yards, oil refineries and airports. The extensive testing services provided by NDT Midlands are applied to all industry sectors, including oil and gas, energy, petrochemical, automotive and precision fasteners.

Emergency testing and rapid response services are always available. Fast, reliable service whilst maintaining the highest of quality standards, is available at very commercial and competitive prices.

The future of NDT Midlands is positive, with partners Stewart Dudwell and Amrik Loroya looking forward to maintaining business growth whilst continuing to develop testing processes and meeting the demands of both existing and new customers. All thanks and acknowledgement goes out to NDT Midlands’ customers – both Stewart and Amrik are hugely grateful for the loyalty and support shown over the last nine years.
