kA Testing Facility engineers have recently installed and received training to enable us to offer Charpy & Izod impact testing.  The tests are performed by striking a test sample with a pendulum hammer. These tests are used to measure a materials resistance to impact from a swinging pendulum. The force used to break the specimen is measured in joules and is calculated by comparing the point at which the pendulum is swung to where the pendulum finishes after break of the specimen. If the hammer does not break the specimen on impact a heavier hammer is used on a new sample until failure occurs.

These tests can also be combined with various environmental tests to give you an idea of how a product or material will cope with different conditions. These conditions include -40 to +180 degrees C, exposure to direct sunlight, exposure to UV rays, exposure to a humid environment to name a few.

If you are interested in discussing having your products receive Charpy or Izod testing please email daniel.phipps@ka-testing.com.
