STAY LEGAL - FREE WASTE SEMINAR FOR MITM MEMBERS

Whether it is a large fine, adverse publicity – or both – the latest laws in waste management mean that many companies are currently at risk – simply because they are not fully aware of new legislation.

To help Midlands manufacturers get to grips with the latest waste laws, waste management specialists, Waste Efficiency Ltd, is running FREE seminars in Birmingham. The first seminar on 26th January 2012, will cover waste management legislation including the recently introduced Waste Regulations 2011 (England & Wales), your duty of care as a waste producer and lots of practical advice and on how to manage your waste.

Waste Efficiency MD, Tim Reed said: “Since late September all companies are required by law to apply a new extended waste hierarchy to the waste they produce. Forming part of the Waste Regulations 2011 (England & Wales) the new hierarchy has been introduced to ensure waste producers consider all alternative options before land filling their waste. It requires waste producers to consider the type and quantity of materials used in the design and manufacture of goods. More emphasis is placed on waste prevention and on finding alternative routes prior to taking the landfill option. Preparing materials for re-use is now specified and requires consideration before recycling is considered.”

He continued: “Whilst some companies are fully aware of the new law and are working to ensure they comply, many are ignorant and unknowingly laying themselves open to prosecution.”
